Project Description

The project encompassed the medical center and orthopedicÌýhospital, which included four hospital wings consisting ofÌý332,305Ìýsquare feet of construction, asÌýwell as 177,587 square feet of renovation toÌýthe existing medical center and hospital.ÌýThe medical center and hospitalÌýenhance and modernize the existing facility’s critically-acclaimed services to maintainÌýits leading role in orthopedics.

The Southwest Wing features a 16,000-square-foot emergency center, which is SantaÌýMonica’s only emergency department approved for Pediatrics. Among other specializedÌýservices, the Southwest Wing provides a birthing center, neonatal intensive careÌýunit, isolation patient rooms, a 26-bed oncology unit and clinical laboratories. TheÌýremaining portions of the project include operating rooms, radiology rooms, MRIÌýrooms, CT scan rooms and a complete array of highly-specialized services.

The project represents approximately 500,000 square feetÌýof construction over 19 distinctÌýphases, all of which were completed without disrupting the ongoing operations ofÌýthe existing medical center and hospital facilities. Tutor Perini implemented aÌýhighly-organized and detailed coordination effort with the University and hospital staffÌýto ensure that the hospital continued to function in its normal capacity. This was aÌývital service to the project as medical gases, fire alarm, air distribution and other criticalÌýsystems were removed, replaced and integrated in a manner thatÌýdid not interfereÌýwith ongoing hospital functions.
